Why is there a 15K run instead of a half marathon this year, and why is the price the same?
For 2026, we’re introducing a 15K run in place of the half marathon to create the best possible runner experience. Reaching the full 21.1K distance required additional turns, neighbourhood loops, and road crossings, which affected flow and safety for participants, volunteers, and residents along the route. While we made adjustments in recent years to address these issues, half marathon participation did not grow. The 15K allows us to focus on the most enjoyable and scenic sections of the course while delivering a smoother, safer race for everyone involved. The registration fee remains the same because runners receive the same level of race-day support, including the same number of aid stations, timing, medical coverage, volunteers, and finish-line experience. The 15K is a growing and popular distance—offering a meaningful challenge beyond 10K without the full training commitment of a half marathon, and we’re excited about the quality of experience and new energy it brings to the Rotary Huron Shore Run.
